Coco Bongo Punta Cana Review: Is it Worth $75?

Finding authentic nightlife in Punta Cana is tough. Most spots cater to tourists with American music instead of Dominican beats. When everyone kept recommending Coco Bongo Punta Cana, I decided to check it out. Here's my honest take on whether this $75 show is worth your money.
What Is Coco Bongo?
Coco Bongo is a franchise nightclub that combines dinner theater with nightclub energy. The venue features non-stop dance performances and aerial acts throughout the night, with shows themed around popular movies and musicals like The Mask, Cabaret, Spider-Man, and both Rio and Dominican Carnival.
From what I heard, the venue is usually big so people are seated at a tables. However, it is not the case in Punta Cana. The venue is small and arena-style, with 3 rows of tables and seats on the sides, a central stage, and standing room around the performance area. Let me be clear: this is 100% a tourist experience. I didn't see a single local guest, only performers.
The Performances: Worth the Price
As a dancer, I have high standards, and the Dominican artists at Coco Bongo impressed me. New performances started every 30 minutes from 9 PM until midnight. These performers delivered high-energy routines continuously for three hours with incredible stamina and skill.
The aerial performances were stunning, and watching local talent made the $75 ticket feel more justified. When you factor in that these professional dancers need to get paid for their nonstop work, the price becomes reasonable.
What's Included
Your $75 ticket includes:
All performances from 9 PM to midnight
Unlimited beer and shots all night
Unlimited food (burgers, hot dogs, fries)
It's not advertised on the website so I did not know but servers circulate constantly with drinks and food. Come hungry!
Once you're inside, there are no additional costs, unless you want a special drink or a bottle.
The Music: Major Disappointment
Here's where Coco Bongo lost me. Between performances, the DJ played early 2000s pop and hip-hop that felt dated. Even worse? The DJ only played two Latin songs all night: Shakira's "Hips Don't Lie" and "Dança Kuduro."
For a club in the Dominican Republic, this was frustrating. The music was lame, plain and simple. The dancers saved the experience, but the soundtrack between shows was a letdown.
Tickets and Crowds
You can buy tickets online or at the door. I bought mine online thinking I'd skip the line, but I still waited in the same long queue as walk-up guests. The club was packed on a Wednesday night, so arrive early if you want a good spot.
After midnight, the scheduled performances end and Coco Bongo transitions into a regular nightclub. I left shortly after, so I can't speak to when it closes, but Dominican clubs typically stay open late.
The Verdict
Bottom line: At $75, Coco Bongo is expensive, but the unlimited drinks and food plus three hours of professional performances offer decent value if you appreciate live entertainment.
Go to Coco Bongo if you:
Love live performance art and acrobatics
Want something different from standard resort entertainment
Don't mind tourist-heavy venues
Value high-energy shows over authentic local culture
Skip Coco Bongo if you:
Want authentic Dominican nightlife
Expect great music and DJ sets
Are on a tight budget
Prefer locals-only venues
Finding real Dominican nightlife in Punta Cana requires local connections. You need people who can take you to spots where locals actually dance to bachata, merengue, and dembow.
